The First Week
The first week of Postach.io being in public beta has been a whirlwind of excitement and we've been extremely busy answering your support requests and taking note of your feedback (even the negative!)
One of the more repeated topics in sifting through the feedback was that there isn't any clear indication of how to use Postach.io from the get-go. We also noticed that some users don't know what the site can be used for! We aim to make this clearer to our users in the coming weeks. This post explains some of the use cases we have reviewed in order to make Postach.io useful and intuitive for everyone until that time.
Our core focus for Postach.io right now is to enable people to get started with a website or blog as soon as possible because we know not everyone is a code-nut like our team! We made Postach.io for:
  • Peer collaboration using Evernote's shared notebooks
  • Customizability of your own site/content
  • The user owns the content!
Collaboration
We're fond of peer collaboration and as a team we understand the need for working together to bring a project to perfection. Leveraging Evernote's shared notebooks allows for multiple writers to collaborate on a note which could become a page or a post.
Customizability
For the most part, websites allow you to customize your site or blog to your liking, but it can be a daunting task if you aren't much of a web developer or designer. In time we will have a few premade themes available for use, but for the time being, if you know how to create a webpage with HTML/CSS/Javascript, you are more than welcome to customize the default theme into something you want to use. We allow for ultimate customization of your site, even down to the HTML Doctype.
Owning Your Content
There is a sore-spot in the blogging community worldwide of being trapped in a service and having your content held at knifepoint while the service goes under. We are changing that notion because Evernote freely allows you to take your content elsewhere!
The Bottom Line
From all this, we have narrowed down the scope of what you can use Postach.io for. We've also compiled a quick list of some use cases:
  • Using Evernote to do a photo blog
  • Creating a shared link blog
  • Collaborating on app/web service documentation (via shared notebook)
  • Collaborating on a company blog (via shared Evernote notebooks)
  • An idea sketch blog
  • Replacing a Posterous or Tumblr blog
  • Making a mobile photo blog using Evernote on Android/iPhone
  • Creating a link blog using Evernote clipper
For the hackers/hardcore bloggers, we support Markdown and actively encourage you to experiment or use it.
One of our developers Brandon found a way to preview Evernotes with an awesome Markdown preview app called Marked. You can find the process over in his Gists on Github.
We appreciate the amazingly positive response we've had for the service and we plan on being around for quite awhile. Send us your love <3
