Make sure your blog tells a story

People like stories more than they like factual play by plays. If you can inject a bit of story and personality into your blog you'll capture a lot more readership. A great example of this is the blog Not Without Salt. It's got story, humour, some times a little drama and of course great food.

As food bloggers its easy to get too focused by whats on the plate and miss out all the other details. Going out to eat is about more than just the food, its about the ambience of the restaurant, the history and origin behind the dishes we're served and of course the people we share our meals with.

Its ok to get personal

The people reading your blog are the same as you and I. We're all interested in other peoples lives and experiences and we crave authenticity. You can only be authentic by being personal. So the next time your sit down to write a blog piece consider these questions for some motivation:
  • Who were you there with and why?
  • What was the history behind the recipe or dish you were about to enjoy?
  • What was the personal back story behind the owner or chef.
  • What was the atmosphere of the restaurant like.
  • What kind of people were there and did you meet any of them?
